Hog Hunting Feeders

There are several different kind of hog hunting feeders you can use when setting up a new hunting spot. There are a few things you will want to keep in mind like the location and access to it.

You probably already know where you would like to set up a few feeders for hogs, but are they the right locations?

When I find a new spot I want to set up on for hog hunting I will usually put my feeder up right on top of the trail, or slightly off of it. The reason for setting up a hog hunting feeder like this is because it will make it very easy for the hogs to find it.

Use a Pig Pipe

A Pig pipe feeder is easy to assemble. The parts are cheap and relocating it is a breeze. All you need for a pig pipe is a 3-4 foot piece of pipe with a cap on it. Attach that to a chain and then anchor it in place. I use a t-post to anchor mine in place. This way the hogs push this thing around in circles knocking the corn out of it and it never really goes any where. They make enough noise at night too. This is good if you want wait until the hogs are at the feeder before you go to your stand. Using a feeder light will greatly increase your odds of taking a trophy boar.

I've put together a free tutorial for building and installing a pig pipe style feeder. It has step by step instructions and full of great photos for you to refer to. Even the deer at my place have learned to use these to get corn out when they want it.

T-Post Feeders
Mount a feeder on a t-post. These feeders are great for hunting hard to get to locations. Say you want to hunt a trail on a fence line, but you can't get your truck back there to set up a full blown feeder. Use a t-post feeder and you're set. Fill it one time and you are good to go for several weeks. Hog hunting feeders come in all shapes and sizes. This type is one of the best for remote location, or temporary hunting over a few days. Take a look at the t-post feeder I use.

Barrel Feeder

Using a traditional barrel type hog feeder has alot of advatanges. You don't have to fill it very often is probably the biggest advantage. They are easy to set up on with blinds or bow hunting stands. They are easy to light up with hog lights.

They are a little more expensive and require more room to set up. When I set this type of hog hunting feeder up I will put this in the middle of the biggest trail I can find that hogs are using. Either that or I will put it on top of or right next to an active wallow. Here's some tips for building your own.
